Vision, Mission & Identity

AADHRIT Lab – आधृत प्रयोगशाला (Advanced AC-DC Hybrid Research & Innovation Laboratory) – envisions resilient AC-DC microgrids that sustain communities in both islanded and grid-connected modes. Our mission echoes the legacy site: integrate local renewable resources, enhance operational surety and safety, and reduce carbon intensity for India’s critical infrastructure.

Foundation

Established in 2019 under the leadership of Dr. Anup Shukla, the lab was conceived to close the gap between legacy power systems and future cyber-physical grids. The original website chronicled this journey – from commissioning AC/DC buses to launching national training programmes. We preserve that documentation here while expanding with new insights.

Inclusive identity

We continue to publish material in both English and Hindi, reflecting the diverse communities we serve across Jammu & Kashmir and India. Multilingual signage within the lab mirrors this commitment.

Mission Statement: Operate hybrid AC-DC microgrids seamlessly, improve resiliency & efficiency, and transition towards carbon-free societies through technology, training and community partnerships.

Strategic Objectives

Research Objectives

  • Develop intelligent tools for robust and efficient operation of smart hybrid AC-DC distribution systems.
  • Create cyber-physical infrastructure for monitoring, protection and control of critical energy assets.
  • Advance hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and power-hardware-in-the-loop (PHIL) experimentation for converter, storage and microgrid validation.
  • Design algorithms for uncertainty modelling, contingency analysis and resilient restoration.

Educational Objectives

  • Deliver problem-based learning modules grounded in real-world microgrid challenges.
  • Mentor Ph.D., M.Tech and undergraduate students through internships, VRITIKA and SERB training schools.
  • Publish open educational resources, laboratory manuals and bilingual outreach material.
  • Collaborate with industry to co-create skill-development programmes for engineers and utility staff.

Societal Objectives

  • Support rural electrification and water treatment microgrids for remote habitations.
  • Promote sustainable campuses through energy management pilots at IIT Jammu.
  • Engage schools, communities and policy makers via demonstrations and public lectures.
